Our 2-Night Family Camping Trip at Sandstone Point BIG4

Kid-Friendly Camping Near Brisbane

December 2025

Back to Sandstone Point BIG4 Holiday Resort After 3 Years!!

Sandstone Point BIG4 is called a campground, but it honestly feels more like a full holiday resort thanks to how well the facilities are maintained. In addition to camping sites, it also offers luxury glamping, cabins, and a holiday resort, making it a large-scale park with a wide range of accommodation options.

We first discovered this place when Liam was one and two years old and visited several times back then. The clean swimming pools and water play areas for kids were especially impressive, and we were amazed at how well everything was set up for families. When it comes to facilities alone, it truly deserves to be called a top-tier campground.

However, after I started working full-time, the first year went by in a blur as I adjusted to work life. After that, we could only travel on weekends, but Sandstone Point BIG4 tends to be quite expensive on weekends, so we ended up visiting other campgrounds instead.

A Great Location Near Brisbane

Sandstone Point BIG4 is located about an hour’s drive from Brisbane, right before the bridge that leads to Bribie Island. Its location makes it easy to enjoy ocean views even while camping, and with such easy access, it’s an excellent choice for a weekend camping trip near Brisbane.

Day 1 – Rainy Day Check-in & Tent Setup

There was rain in the forecast during our 2-night, 3-day camping trip. We packed all our gear the night before and left for the campground around 9 a.m. Since check-in was at 11 a.m., we arrived early at Bribie Island, grabbed an early and simple lunch at McDonald’s, and then headed straight to check in.

However, it started raining right as we checked in. We kept checking the weather, wondering how long the rain would last, and decided to wait until it stopped before setting up the tent. Instead, we headed to the pool first.

Fun Pool Time Even on a Rainy Day

Both the adults and kids had a great time playing in the pool. There were sunbeds available, and the artificial grass area was perfect for running around or relaxing on bean bags. It was a space we could fully enjoy, even on a rainy day.

When the rain stopped for a while, the dads went off to set up the tents, while the mums and kids stayed back and spent more time at the pool.

Our Camping Site Setup for 2 Nights and 3 Days

Our home for the next two nights and three days was finally set up. We placed a gazebo in the center and set up our tents on each side.

Our friends’ gazebo had a fly net attached, which made a huge difference. It kept most of the bugs out, making it very comfortable to eat meals inside. Occasionally, a mosquito would still get in, but not having to deal with so many insects already made it more than worth it.

Camping Dinner & Meals

When we go camping, we usually cook a barbecue, but this time we grilled meat on a stove using a frying pan instead. For dinner on the second night, our friends prepared braised short ribs and homemade kimchi salad. Maybe because it felt like a home-cooked meal at the campsite, it tasted even better.

Camping Food Recommendation | Satay Chicken & Crispy Noodle Salad

Over the years of camping, we’ve found a new favorite camping meal. Satay chicken with peanut sauce paired with a crispy noodle salad is truly the perfect combination!!

It would have been even better cooked over a charcoal barbecue, but charcoal BBQs are restricted at Sandstone Point BIG4 Holiday Resort, so we had to skip that. Even so, it was still more than satisfying when cooked on a stove.

Day 2 – Spending the Whole Day at the Campground

We started our day early at the pool. With several pools to choose from, we could move from one to another and spend time there without getting bored.

At the water park, Liam has grown a lot over the past three years and is now old enough to climb up and go down the slides on his own. Since we were camping together with another family, the kids played well together, and we were able to take family photos for each other and make lasting memories.

Pool Bar & Happy Hour

At the pool with a pool bar, we could order drinks and alcoholic beverages. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., there was a happy hour with a buy-one-get-one-free deal. Thanks to the rain from the day before, the weather felt especially clear and fresh.

Jumping Pillow & Playground

After lunch, we spent some quiet time doing origami and drawing. In the afternoon, the kids had plenty of fun running and playing at the jumping pillow and the playground.

A Campground Perfect for Bikes & Scooters

In the late afternoon before dinner, the kids took turns riding their bikes and scooters around the campground. The internal roads were well maintained, making it a great place for children to ride and play safely.

Day 3 – Check-out & Pool Time Afterward

Check-out time was 10 a.m., but we didn’t want to head straight home, so we asked at reception. Fortunately, we were told that after packing up and checking out, we could park across the road and continue using the facilities until before lunchtime.

Thanks to that, we had about three extra hours, and we spent our last day enjoying the pool as well. However, the kids seemed more tired than the day before and didn’t play for very long.

Wrapping Up the Camping Trip with a Drink at the Pool Bar

We wrapped up our camping trip by enjoying a drink each at the pool bar. They also had slushies for kids, so the children were able to enjoy a drink too. ><

We left for home around 11 a.m., and Liam must have been very tired because he fell asleep almost immediately in the car. And just like that, our 2-night, 3-day camping trip at Sandstone Point BIG4 Holiday Resort came to an end.
